The Brest International Maritime Festival is back 8 years after its last edition, with a concrete commitment in terms of its societal and environmental responsibility.
Like a number of festivals across France, which have managed to adopt a proactive approach towards the societal and environmental challenges, Brest 2024 is also targeting a sustainability approach that has its finger on the pulse of modern-day events, as initiated by its organisation team.

Support with creation and local broadcasting
Signing of the label supporting the Breton language !
(76% of it originating in the Finistère department)
Collaboration with Pass’Musique to showcase Brest’s rising talent
(excluding the chartered boats)
Signage on the site translated into Breton
Special sale by auction with proceeds going to the SNSM, Océanopolis Acts and Innoveo
A window onto the general public offered to those involved in the event to encourage membership, with the emphasis on a special Quai des Associations device
Strengthening the bond between charitable associations/and food solidarity
Collaboration with Brest Métropole regarding on-site prevention via the Plan Alcool Brestois (Brest Alcohol Plan) and the availability of Water Packs and Breathalysers
Setting up of equipment distribution points (ear plugs, Breathalysers, condoms, etc.) in the specially erected ‘Phares’ (locating beacons dotted around the site measuring 8m high)
Presence of breathalysers at the exits in the evening
In connection with Eau du Ponant
Alcohol sales end at midnight
implemented by Brest Métropole Habitat and the Centre communal d’action sociale (Social Action Community Centre) for free and reduced rate entry tickets for those in need
for the arrival of neighbourhood structures and recreational centres
Donation, transformation and reuse by the SATO group of the bulk of the site’s tarpaulins (Entrances, Villages, Stopovers…)
Repurposing of equipment and materials by the region
Favouring loans and rentals
Temporary structures and non-reusable single-use décor reduced as much as possible
Attention given to eco-design, sustainability and a respect for working conditions during the study of service provider offers
compared with the last edition
Establishing of a good practice charter: special attention given to proposals from local ‘direct from the producer’ catering firms, at the very least, with a vegetarian option as well as meat products from a responsible network that is as local as possible
